Northampton Arts Council opens FY27 grant applications for local artists and cultural groups
Applications will open Sept. 1 for grants supporting artists and cultural organizations in Northampton, Florence and Leeds.
The Northampton Arts Council is opening applications for its Fiscal Year 2027 Local Cultural Council Grant Round, with the application window beginning Sept. 1 and closing Oct. 15 at 11:59 p.m.. The grants support community-based projects in the arts, humanities and interpretive sciences across Northampton, Florence and Leeds.
The annual program is part of a statewide network of 329 local cultural councils. Funding flows through the Mass Cultural Council and directly supports public programs including performances, exhibitions, festivals, workshops, school programs and public art. Eligible applicants include individual artists, cultural practitioners, nonprofit organizations, unincorporated community groups and public schools and agencies.
During the FY26 cycle, the Northampton Arts Council distributed $22,710 across community projects, with individual grants typically ranging from $180 to $1,805. Brian Foote, Director of Arts and Culture at the Northampton Arts Council, said the grant program serves as the foundation of grassroots funding in the community. "Being able to provide direct support to artists across all disciplines — visual art, music, dance, theater, literature, media and school programming — ensures that our local cultural landscape remains vibrant, accessible and evolving," Foote said.
Foote noted that because grants rarely fund the full cost of a proposal, applicants should seek diverse revenue streams including their own funds, outside support or in-kind contributions. The council reinvests proceeds from community events like First Night, Transformance and the Silver Chord Bowl directly back to local artists through grants, creating what Foote described as a self-sustaining cultural funding ecosystem.
Local funding priorities will be published when applications open on Sept. 1. The Mass Cultural Council will host a statewide virtual information session on Sept. 10. The LCC Grant Decisions Report is due Jan. 15, 2027, with award announcements to follow.
