Two vehicle fires strike Northampton in one week

A car fire at a Dunkin' Donuts on Damon Road Monday was followed by a hay truck blaze in the Meadows on Wednesday.

NORTHAMPTON — Firefighters tackled two vehicle fires in the city this week, one at a Dunkin' Donuts drive-through and another involving a hay-loaded pickup truck.

The first fire occurred Monday at the Dunkin' Donuts on Damon Road when a car caught fire while in the drive-through. According to the Northampton Fire Rescue Department, Engine 2 quickly brought the fire under control and prevented flames from spreading to the building. One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation but declined transport to the hospital.

On Wednesday, firefighters responded to a pickup truck fire off Hockanum Road in the Meadows, where hay in the truck bed was burning. Crews extinguished the flames and spent considerable time suppressing hot spots. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Both responses came from the same engine company. The Monday call came during a shift change for Northampton Fire Rescue crews.
