Herrell's Ice Cream Opens Permanent Amherst Store
The ice cream maker, which produces in Northampton, opens its second retail shop at 69 Cowls Road with a ribbon cutting and giveaways on July 31.
Herrell's Ice Cream will open its permanent location in the Mill District on July 31, marking the ice cream maker's second retail shop after operating a pop-up location in the neighborhood during summer 2024. The ribbon cutting ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. at 69 Cowls Road, hosted by the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with bankESB and The Mill District.
The celebration offers visitors a chance to meet the Herrell's team and enjoy 15% off purchases throughout the opening weekend, which extends through August 1. The grand opening is free and open to the public. An Under The Tent Movie Event showing Grease follows at 6 p.m. on July 31 and is alcohol-free.
Herrell's has made ice cream in small batches in Northampton since its founding in 1980, pioneering the modern gourmet ice cream movement through handcrafted, small-batch production and innovative flavors. The company, now owned and operated by Judy Herrell, produces handcrafted ice cream, dairy-free No-Moo flavors, sorbets, and ice cream cakes. "I love the community spirit in Amherst, and it's exciting to meet and greet longtime fans from the Amherst Area, as well as first-time visitors," Herrell said.
Jacob Robinson, Executive Director of the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, called the permanent Amherst location "a tremendous addition to the Mill District." The neighborhood also features locally owned restaurants, cafés, specialty food shops, boutiques, services, public art, and outdoor gathering spaces.
