Fundraiser for Displaced Palestinians Planned at Northampton Church
The August 29 event at First Churches will feature Palestinian cuisine, a film screening, and speakers addressing the humanitarian crisis.
NORTHAMPTON — A fundraising event combining Palestinian food, a documentary film, and community speakers will take place Saturday, August 29, at Lyman Hall in First Churches Northampton to support displaced Palestinian families in Gaza and Egypt.
The Soul of Gaza event aims to raise money for basic needs assistance and an education fund for students in Gaza. The afternoon will feature Palestinian cuisine prepared by a chef from Gaza, a screening of the short film Angel of Gaza, and presentations from community speakers.
Dr. Ayman Nijim, a doctor of liberation psychology, will speak on Palestine's future amid what organizers describe as human and ecological devastation. A community member working with Arduna, a Gazan-run farmer's collective, will also present information about the organization.
Nancy M., executive director of Eyewitness Palestine and co-founder of Existence is Resistance, will address the importance of solidarity with Palestinian communities. The event runs from 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2:45 p.m.
