Amherst and Regional Events Planned for Late June and Early July

Multiple events are scheduled across the Pioneer Valley this week, from concerts and markets to community meetings and celebrations.

In Amherst, Victor Wooten and the Wooten Brothers will perform at The Drake on Friday, June 26 at 8 p.m. The group has won 10 Grammy Awards and received 26 nominations since their first public appearance in 1966. Tickets are $50 in advance.

Amherst is hosting a public meeting on Saturday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at North Common about culverts and flooding. The session will ask residents about their experiences with local flooding to help identify problematic culverts and road washouts. The effort is part of a regional project involving Amherst, Hadley, Belchertown, Pelham, and Shutesbury focused on protecting the Fort River Watershed and improving flood resilience.

On Saturday at Sweetser Park, the Amherst Community Band will play American music at 6:30 p.m. to mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The concert is a collaboration between the Amherst Historical Society and the Amherst Business Improvement District. A rain location at St. Brigid's Parish, 43 North Prospect Street, will be used if needed.

The Amherst Pride Parade will take place Sunday from noon to 3 p.m., beginning at Amherst-Pelham Regional High School and ending at the Town Common. A sign-making session will be held at 11 a.m., followed by live performances and a resource fair from 1 to 3 p.m.

A Feed the Hungry Concert is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. in Pulaski Park in Northampton. The program will feature regional and spiritually inspired musicians including Russell Brooks, Onatah Love, Matthew Andrews, Música Franklin Youth Chorus, and Tony Vacca. The event will conclude with a community sing-along of We Are the World.

On Monday, June 29, all Bueno y Sano locations in Amherst, Northampton, South Deerfield, Springfield, and West Springfield will donate 50 percent of sales to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County. The 12th Annual Bueno Day benefits the mentoring organization.

A Wednesday, July 1 UMass Downtown Seminar starting at 6 p.m. will explore bird migration and habitat stewardship with ornithologists Rozy Bathrick and Sebastian Moreno. The session is free and part of a Summer Seminar Series running through August 5.

On Saturday, July 4, an Interfaith Peace Walk will begin at the Amherst Common at 9 a.m., proceeding along Route 9 to Northampton to honor Frances Crowe and Paki Weiland.
